Hidden Winter Beauty in Washington State

When people think of swans, they usually think of a beautiful pair of stately white birds floating in tranquility on a pond.

It’s certainly unexpected to see a big group of them on foot, paddling around a muddy cornfield, all calling out to each other in muted honks. It’s awe-inspiring and breathtaking to watch the huge birds flying together and landing in formation.

Skagit and Whatcom Counties have some of the best locations to watch wintering Trumpeter and Tundra swans.
